When Life Gives You Lemons, Make a Movie

Easy Peesy Lemon Squeezy

By now we’re all tired about hearing about the economy, about the recession, about the skyrocketing unemployment. And yet, that’s all they talk about on the news, in political speeches, on blogs and forums. It’s kind of like poking at a sore tooth to make it hurt – you don’t know why you do it, but you do it anyway.

But when this video – produced and starring laid-off ad industry professionals – hit the webwaves, you could tell it was something different. The title says it all. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade (or Ceviche, which I think is much tastier).

View full version at Hulu.

The video centers on the ad industry – one of the hardest hit in recent years – but that’s just a jumping off point. Sure, there are a lot of creative thinkers and artists that make up these case studies, but really this should serve as a wake up call for anyone that has to drag themselves into work everyday. There’s a better life out there, to be sure. And maybe all it takes is one fuzzy black raincloud to show us our personal silver linings.

  1. No, you’re a dick bag, but you’re also right. I’m assuming that most of these people actually wanted to be doing something different and that may have contributed to the layoffs. But I think the point is, sometimes you never take a risk on something until you have nothing left to risk at all.

  2. At the risk of sounding like an epic dick bag, I just want to throw something out there.

Perhaps, just perhaps, if you were laid off, and you find that gave you the opportunity to completely change your life and career and you are now much happier, there was a reason you were laid off.

I’m just saying that, if you were so unhappy, mayhaps you were, at least, *subconciously* not doing as awesome of a job as you could have, and they efficiency experts perceived this and decided to give you the boot because of this.

I’m just saying, certainly not everyone who is laid off deserves it. Indeed, I believe most probably do not. And it is a horrible thing to go through. But I’m just saying that in the case of the people in this video, it looks like there may be more going on.
